1st T20: India Women Win by 7 Wickets

The first T20 match between India and South Africa played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom, saw some stellar performances by the players.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first.

South Africa Innings

South Africa managed to set a huge target of 165 for India. The top scorers for South Africa were Dane van Niekerk (38 off 31 balls), Chloe Tyron (32* off 7 balls) and Mignon du Preez (31 off 37). It was Chloe Tryon’s two fours and four sixes that took the total to 164/4 in the last over.

India Innings

India got off to a great start as Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj came in to bat. Mithali Raj scored an unbeaten 54* off 48 balls. Seventeen-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues who made her international debut also played a spectacular innings of 37 off 27 balls, while Veda Krishnamurthy scored a 37* off 22 and finished it off in style for India in the nineteenth over.

The Player of the Match was Mithali Raj.

India lead the five-match T20 series by 1-0.

The match was live streamed on Cricket South Africa’s official YouTube channel, while the last three T20 matches will be televised.

The 2nd T20 match will take place on 16th February.
