India’s Tour of South Africa: Ismail Shines in 3rd T20


The 3rd T20 match between India and South Africa was held at The Wanderers, Johannesburg on 18th February. The match was telecast live.

As South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first, India openers Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana made their way to the crease.

India Innings

After losing an early wicket, India built their innings while maintaining a good strike rate. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 48 off 30 balls but fell short of a half-century, while Smriti Mandhana scored 37 off 24 balls. Veda Krishnamurthy also contributed 23 runs in 14 balls.

During the final overs, India lost 5 wickets over a span of 9 runs and the team were bundled out for 133/10 in 17.5 overs.

In a brilliant bowling spell, Shabnim Ismail starred for South Africa with a 5-wicket haul.

South Africa Innings

Chasing a target of 134, the highest scorer for South Africa was Sune Luus (41 off 34 balls). Chloe Tryon’s power hitting helped the hosts add a quick 34 off 15 balls to the total.

South Africa won by 5 wickets with 6 balls to spare.

The Player of the Match was Shabnim Ismail.

India currently lead the series by 2-1.

T20 Squads

Earlier in the series, Indian fast-bowler Jhulan Goswami was ruled out of the T20 series owing to a heel injury. All-rounder Rumeli Dhar was called upon to replace her for the remainder of the T20 series.
