Nidahas Trophy Final
The much-awaited Nidahas Trophy Final held on 18th March, Sunday, was played between India and Bangladesh. As India won a last-ball thriller, this is how it happened.
India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Bangladesh had a shaky start as they lost two wickets in the fourth and fifth overs. But it was Sabbir Rahman who steadied their innings with his fifty-ball 77. Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan both helped take the total to 166/8 at the end of 20 overs.
Having claimed three wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal remained the highest wicket-taker for India.
India skipper Rohit Sharma took the team to a great start and went on to score 56 off 42 balls. While Lokesh Rahul and Manish Pandey also made important contributions, it was Dinesh Karthik who stole the show. As the match approached a nail-biting finish, with India needing 5 runs to win off the last ball, Karthik finished it off in style with a six and the fans erupted in celebration. With 29* runs off just 8 balls, and a strike rate of 362.5, he played the most crucial role in the win.
“It’s an amazing feeling. These are things which remain in your memory for a lifetime.”
