Here’s a look back at some of the most memorable moments from AB de Villiers’ glorious career.
Perhaps the most famous of all his records and a defining moment in his career is his record of the fastest 50 and teh fastest century in an ODI against West Indies in 2015. Scoring a half-century off 16 balls and going on to make a century off just 31 balls, he achieved these feats in the same match. He then went on to score 149 runs in 44 balls in that very match, as South Africa eventually won by 148 runs. With 9 fours and 16 sixes, he also holds a record for most sixes in an ODI innings along with Rohit Sharma.
Along with RC Russell, AB de Villiers holds the record for the most catches in a test match by a wicketkeeper. He took 11 catches in the test match against Pakistan at Johannesburg in 2013.
During South Africa’s tour of Australia in November 2012, AB de Villiers put up a unique display of defensive batting while chasing a target of 430 in the second innings of a test match. He scored 33 runs in 220 balls on Day 5 of the test match and helped save the match for South Africa.
Having single-handedly taken his team to many victories, Mr. 360 has been an absolute superhero in the Indian Premier League. With five 100+ partnerships for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and two 200+ partnerships, he holds a unique record. In the eleventh season of the IPL, he surprised everyone with his acrobatic catch that was perhaps one of the best we have seen so far. [Watch the video here]
