Women’s IPL-style T20 match confirmed

Much to the delight of women’s cricket fans, the BCCI has announced a women’s IPL-style T20 match to be played this month. As per a report by the Indian Express, the match will be played right before the first playoff match of the men’s IPL tournament at the Wankhede in Mumbai. Players from Australia, England and South Africa are expected to participate.

It will be on the lines of the IPL. Totally there will be 10 foreign players and 20 Indian players across both teams. The Indian players will be picked by the national selection committee and the game, which will start at 2.30 pm, will be shown live.Diana Edulji, CoA member

The match is being seen as a dry run for a women’s IPL tournament. The past few years have seen a growth in the viewership and fan base of women’s cricket in India. Fans are hopeful of seeing a women’s IPL in the future.
